A short while a go David Bowie died. Like most I’ve never met David Bowie. I never saw him in concert. I wish I had. It’s rather odd how acutely his passing affected me. The 10th of January 2016 was a sad day for me and many more. My reaction was to wrote a song, a poem, whatever. I’m not sure if it’s very good, but the process of writing was a cathartic one for me to a small extent. It probably needs a bit more work. My tribute to David Bowie follows:
Wind Back The News
Wind back the news
You boogaloo dudes
We're screaming in science
At the C-shaped violence
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
But still play the tunes
John’s not dancing today
In that peculiar way
Wind back the news
I thought nobody could bring me down
I never bargained on a pierrot clown
What do we go now when we fancy some strange?
Where do we looking for the constant in change?
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Of the concluding of cool
Collocate the scene
With a treasured dream
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Who the hell’s Sue?
Is she the whore that you pity
Who rode right round a city
Wind back the news
He stopped the world to let the dude get off
It didn’t deserve you, special man
All the everyday people have something to say
All the somebody people are saying the same
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Of the beautiful kook
See ya later spaceman
What a distance you ran
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
There’s nothing we can do
It’s bluer than blue
It’s bluer than blue
Wind back the news
No longer here but still everywhere
Still resplendent in long short hair
Nobody combs their hair in that way
Put yourself in women’s shoes today
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
Wind back the news
(Beep beep)
Wind back the news
(Beep beep)
Wind back the news
(Beep beep)
I heard the news today oh boy
