This wonderful and much appreciated review for Provisionally Yours from Trust The Doc turned up on Twitter this morning.
Melvis is Mel Small and his track Provisionally Yours has a deceptively lazy sounding groove, with a gorgeous sliding Double Bass figure and shuffling beat accompanying sweet bluesy piano chords and late night, hotel bar trumpet. Mel’s vocals are jazzy, husky and dark. Shades of John Martyn in a jam with Gregory Porter while Tom Waits brings something a little bit stronger. The general aura of the track is a kind of whiskey-fuelled post-midnight bar room bohemia in which we can lose ourselves in the gentle lilt of the music and the bitter sweet burn of a brandy chaser. Smoked jazz served on a silver salver. Make sure you tip him generously!
